Gigi Carter: If I could give 10 stars, I would. The staff at Downtown Dog Lounge Ballard saved my dog's life. Max is an older dog and rescue with several underlying health conditions, but has been stable for several months. Earlier this year, the vet told us Max's heart condition would worsen, but he couldn't pinpoint when. My husband and I planned a much-needed long holiday weekend in Dallas with close friends. We dropped Max and our other pup off at DDL on Thursday. Saturday night I received a text message and video of Max. His tongue was blue and he was having a very hard time breathing. With my approval, they immediately took Max to the emergency vet where they intubated and gave him oxygen and sedation. After speaking with the emergency vet, it was clear that the attention paid to Max, and quick action of the Downtown Dog Lounge staff saved my dog's life. I cut my trip short and flew back first thing Sunday morning to rush to the hospital. After talking through everything with the vet, Max was discharged from the hospital with new medications that he is tolerating very well. I know we don't have much time left with Max, but as someone who loves her dogs dearly I don't want to not be there when something happens. However, the care, love, attention and excellent communication of the staff at DDL made all the difference. Thank you! I'm deeply grateful.

Christabel Britto: from ASTR after fostering him for 3 weeks. He has now been with us for 7 weeks. Our experience with ASTR was very pleasant and efficient. Heidi was direct, prompt, clear and professional in her communication and transparent about rules and expectations. During the time we were fostering Archie, he had some minor health issues like hot spots and vomiting and Heidi was always prompt and helpful with advice/do's/dont's that helped Archie get better. Her advice was always spot on.Since I've read alot of reviews - both positive and negative - I thought it might help to share my personal perspective, experience and philosophy. If you set the right expectations you will not be disappointed:1. After we adopted Archie - I took him to the vet ASTR had been using for him to get his care organized. His records were all legitimate and lined up with whatever ASTR communicated to us.2. Frankly and personally - I don't care whether ASTR is a non-profit or not. Nor do I care about the philosophy or value system underlying their approach and methods. I wanted to foster and potentially adopt a dog if things worked out. ASTR gives these innocent creatures a 2nd chance at a better life. Costs and terms were transparent. I was OK with both and went ahead with them. And today our lives are filled with a wonderful little soul who is so happy with us and makes us equally happy.3. The other thing to think about is - when these creatures have been through so much instability and trauma - being shuttled from puppy mills/auctions to long distance transportation to multiple foster homes till they find an adoptive family - it's natural for them to be a little unsettled, temperamental and look shabby. Archie came to us with hot spots and looked like a bit of a ragamuffin with unevenly cut hair, etc. Over time as he felt more secure and settled with us, his allergies and illnesses healed, his mood improved, he became more confident & playful, and he looks absolutely adorable these days! We get so many compliments on our walks!! So give it time. Don't be in a rush to jump to conclusions about the animal in the first week. They are very different personalities from week 1 to week 8 and who knows how much more we will discover. All I can say is it only gets better.4. We had potty troubles with Archie the first few weeks but we put it down to general adjustment issues and understanding each other - diets, schedules, habits, etc. But being an intelligent and communicative animal we have figured each other out over time and now have a very well potty-trained doggy with us.5. While the write-up on Archie was a little redundant with grammatical errors - that didn't bother me much. Infact, I'd go as far as to say, it was so honest that one would probably be hesitant to adopt him after reading it. For eg. it said his previous adoptive family returned him after some mild biting / snapping issues and resource guarding. We still went ahead and took our chances and have not had any trouble with him. He did show some resource guarding behaviors in the beginning but over time we have been training them out of him and he is responding perfectly. A sense of love and security has been helpful in working the insecurities out of him. No child is perfect, so why would we expect that in a dog.6. We could have adopted from the city shelter or humane society much cheaper - but I didnt find they had any dogs to suit my requirements. So I went ahead with ASTR.7. Caring for a pet animal is not free or cheap. So in that respect - and for what ASTR has done for Archie - I didn't find the costs exorbidant.If you're reading this with a view to fostering or adopting - I wish you good luck on your journey. It can be a wonderful experience.

It was clear from our first conversation that they wanted to ensure that the animals in their care are adopted into loving and caring homes. I flew to Seattle and brought Mr. Dunphy home with me.This was not my first rodeo with regard to pet adoption. All of our dogs have been adopted out of sad situations, and Mr. Phil Dunphy was no exception. He was rescued from a slaughterhouse in South Korea, and later transported to Seattle. The folks at Aberdeen Scottish Terrier Rescue went above and beyond in attending to Phil Dunphy’s medical needs, and had him eating the healthiest foods while he was in their care. As a result, we ended up with a very happy and healthy new family member.For anyone interested in adopting a dog, I highly recommend working with Aberdeen Scottish Terrier Rescue. It was a great experience, and we are very happy to have Mr. Phil Dunphy in our family.EDIT: Since I am unable to post a second review here of this wonderful organization, I wanted to share that I recently returned to Washington to adopt another dog from ASTR.My wife and I recently lost a very special Poodle that we adopted 10 years ago. We wanted to honor his memory by giving another little orphan a permanent home. PiDan is a tiny little guy, but he is full of energy. Since moving to Georgia, he has developed a laser-like focus on deer and squirrels. He loves to bask in the sun with Phil Dunphy, and with our Beagle as well. He has acclimated quickly to our home, and is now very much attached to our other two dogs.When I returned from Seattle with this little guy, my wife said “He looks like an Ollie” So that is his new name. He is starting to respond to his new moniker.Again, I cannot recommend ASTR enough. Little Ollie/PiDan received lots of love, and wonderful care when he was with them. We are very happy that he is now with us.

bobby fast: ASTR works tirelessly to help dogs find safe and loving homes. We found them on instagram and initially decided to foster a special needs dog they had rescued from China. We fell in love with him and eventually decided to adopt him! ASTR did such a thorough job interviewing us and making sure we had a safe home to foster Don and I was very impressed by how much they truly care about all the dogs. We have friends who have adopted two dogs through them and are currently fostering a third and they also highly recommend ASTR!

Hiedi was very efficient and everything went very quick and very smooth from the minute we contacted them to the meet and greet with the pups. She explained what they had been through for the first 6 months of their lives and what to expect regarding behaviour. I would recommend this organization to anyone who wants to give a rescue dog a forever home.

Serena Carlson: This has been a wonderful rescue organization to work with. We started out as a rescue and they supplied all of our sweet rescue’sfood and care. We recently adopted our sweet Snickers. We were traveling out of town and our dog sitter wasn’t available, and they were willing to take her to a daycare until we got back. We did find a dog sitter but wow. They really care.

John Hansen: We just adopted a Mini Schnoodle from ASTR. She was in a Puppy Breeding Mill for 3 years before ASTR resued her. Whether it was from auction or what have you doesn't matter. The fact is ASTR spent thousands treating and caring for this girl and then had her in foster care while she recovered for 9 months before we adopted her. She is the sweetest little girl and is blending in comfortably in her new home. Both Heidi and the Foster Mom are both committed to seeing these pups go to good homes and do a thorough vetting process. Don't be offended by that
